The National Weather Center Research Experiences for Undergraduates program is happy to announce REUnion 2008, a gathering of current and former participants! Events will begin the evening of Friday, June 20, with an informal gathering. On Saturday, June 21, we'll meet up for a day of networking and hearing about interesting careers and valuable graduate school tips. We're trying to arrange a formal dinner for Saturday evening. On Sunday, June 22, we may try to meet up for an informal breakfast before everyone departs for home.
The REUnion is a great chance to connect with former REUers to share stories about the interesting things that have happened since the REU program. It will also provide time to network across different years to extend your REU experience even further. By now many of you are pursuing interesting careers in a variety of sectors. Check out the Alumni page to see how broadly you've all scattered!
We have been given a small amount of funding from NSF to help former REUers with travel and housing. These funds will be committed on a first-come, first-served basis for those who would not otherwise be able to join us. Please - only request funds if you could not otherwise come!
You can also save money by finding a roommate to share your hotel costs - use the NWC REU FaceBook group to connect! See below for information on hotel rooms we've blocked out for the event. I also have a request in to OU Housing for rooms in Traditions West. If any are available, they will be for those who are singles traveling alone.
Note we'll try to have some kind of accommodation for children on Saturday evening during the formal dinner. I hope that if you bring your family that your spouse/significant other can care for your children during the daytime on Saturday. There are lots of fun things to do around town from free KidSpace playground equipment and one of those kid's play water features in our city parks to the nation's largest university-affiliated natural history museum w/ huge dinosaurs, a cave you can crawl through, and a fun Discovery Center for kids! Let me know if you need ideas. Friday evening and Sunday morning all are welcome to join our informal activity.
